Alex Mason

Alex Mason is an environmental and sustainability leader with progressive experience supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturing. As an Associate Director, Safety, Health, and Environment at AstraZeneca Frederick Manufacturing Center, Alex leads environmental permitting; cradle-to-grave stewardship for hazardous, non-hazardous, and biomedical waste; and spill prevention, response, and root-cause investigations. Alex oversees regulatory inspections and on-time reporting, embeds the site’s SHE Management System, and partners with operations and facilities to integrate engineering and administrative controls that match process hazards across utilities, labs, and production suites. In addition to coordinating waste programs and contractor performance, Alex steers capital projects to ensure environmental design compliance. Through targeted training, audits, and data-driven dashboards, Alex translates sustainability goals into measurable reductions and CAPA-backed improvements that strengthen compliance, resilience, and low-carbon manufacturing.
