Process Engineer II, Bluebird Bio

Li Chen earned her BS in Chemical Engineering at University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2009. She is a process engineer II in the Manufacturing, Science and Technology (MSAT) department at bluebird bio since 2019. Li and her team provide support to the commercial manufacturing process through technical investigations using scale-down-models in the MSAT lab. She also supports technology transfer of late stage process development products to commercial facilities and supports regulatory activities. Prior to bluebird bio, she worked at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) for ten years where she had the opportunity to work in various departments, starting as a Validation Engineer in 2009 when BMS was first setting up its facilities in Devens, MA, followed by the MSAT Data Analytics group in 2012 supporting the statistical process control program and the implementation of Discoverant. In 2013, she joined the MSAT downstream team and supported multiple technology transfer projects and had the opportunity to bring multiple biologic drugs from late stage process development into commercialization. Li’s special focus is developing a seamless technology transfer and commercialization process to bring medicine to patients at a rapid pace.
