Moiz Diwan is a director within the Process Research and Development organization at AbbVie. Moiz completed his M.S. and PhD degree from Purdue University in Chemical engineering and bachelor’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering. Moiz Joined Abbott/AbbVie in 2009 and was soon after assigned as a lead engineer on HCV 1st Gen Viekira API process development and led manufacturing process transfer to commercial facilities and supported regulatory submissions. After successful launch of Viekira, Moiz led cross functional API development team for HCV Next Gen. Mavyret. Moiz has led teams through early to late stage pharmaceutical development involving drug substance control strategy development, establishing global supply chain, process tech-transfer and scale-up, and authored global regulatory filings. Presently, he is leading Center of Excellence for Enabling Technology Development, a cross functional team of chemists, engineers and PAT scientists, impacting all small molecule projects. The center focus on fundamentals-driven process development through data rich experimentation, predictive mechanistic/statistical modeling and ensure consistent application of best practices to all projects in the R&D pipeline. This center has supported commercial process development and regulatory submissions for 4 approved drugs in last 3 years. Moiz also built and currently leads FAST – Flow and Automation Strategy Team from ground-up. FAST is a multi-disciplinary team of 70+ scientists and engineers from 9+ functions and 4+ AbbVie sites across Discovery, Development, and Operations Manufacturing organization to efficiently share capabilities and resources, facilitate collaboration and provide strategic advancement on lab automation, plant automation, information management and continuous manufacturing technologies to maximize the impact. Moiz likes to develop and implement novel commercial technologies to provide elegant process solutions and drive business and operational efficiencies.
